The Austrian city of Berndorf has made shopping more environmentally friendly and promote local businesses by introducing the Berndorf Bag, a bag constructed from woven plastic.
The bag was developed by Austrian technology supplier Starlinger & Co under the product name CB*star for the campaign ‟I shop in Berndorf.”
Sandra Kreger, initiator of the community project, said: ‟Our customers love the bag, and I can only encourage other towns to take up the idea which is good for the environment, the economy and the customers.”
Kregar, who owns a small Italian delicatessen in Berndorf, was introduced to Starlinger’s CB*star bag by a customer who worked for the company.
‟CB*star bags are conveniently light, can carry up to 25 kilograms and are reusable many times,” Kreger said. ‟They are also good-looking, attractively priced and completely recyclable, therefore environment-friendly.”
After 14 other businesses in Berndorf also became interested in using the bag, the project ‟I shop in Berndorf” was born.
Starlinger is a Vienna-based engineering company with production sites in Weissenbach and St. Martin, Austria, as well as in Taicang, China.
