Low-friction medical components are the target of a new additive from Compounding Solutions.
The product, called Mobilize, can lower costs compared with traditional lubricating additives, claims the Lewiston, Me., company.
Mobilize reduces friction but has little effect on mechanical properties of the base resin, according to the company. It also passes cytotoxicity tests. It reportedly cuts friction in a wide range of resins, including polyolefins, styrenics, polyesters, polycarbonate, nylons, polyether block amide, thermoplastic polyurethane and thermoplastic elastomers.
Tests have shown Mobilize reduces surface friction in PEBA by 25 percent.
Mobilize complements Compounding Solutions’ lineup of medical compounds and color and additive concentrates made on the firm’s eight compounding lines.
